Right CPU to match a GTX 285

Good day forum members,

I just acquired a new BFG GTX285 OC, I am wondering if my current CPU and ram might be a bottleneck in its performance. I currently have a Q6600 and 4gb (4-4-4-12) ram, do I need to improve this in order to get the full GPU potential?

I was planning on getting a i7 920 CPU, mobo and 6gb triple channel ram by the end of the year to match the GTX285 performance. Will this be necessary at all? If so, I might need to rush this purchase to mid year.

The i7 is a great choice gaming-wise, and you will probably have a larger range of motherboards to choose from owing to the release of the P55 (Ibex Peak) chipset in Q3. Also, the i7 920 should have dropped in price, and you will also have other i7 CPUs to choose from.

All around, I think it is a great decision to move to an i7-based system at the end of the year.
