  1. ive recently received a pair of roccat kave headset. it uses 5 connectors. usb, pink, green, black and orange. So as you can see, a 5.1 surround sound card is required. Upon purchasing my pc I had selected the on board 7.1 sound option. However I only have 3 jacks on the rear. green pink and blue. I do have a mic and headphone jackat the front which arent coloured

I was wondering if I have to purchase a 5.1 surround sound card to use the headset or is there something else that I can do.

    my motherboard: Gigabyte Z68AP-D3
    case: zalman z9
os: windows 7 home premium 64bit

    link to headset: http://www.roccat.org/Products/Gam [...] 5-1/#crb_2
    link to motherboard: http://uk.gigabyte.com/products/pr [...] 15&dl=1#sp

    any feedback is much appreciated

The motherboard specs says it does support 5.1 audio. You should be able to configure the audio ports through the audio settings in the control panel for 5.1 audio. The roccat kave headset should work fine using the 3 rear audio ports... Does the roccat kave headset have any instructions included?

Just using the connectors on the back of the motherboard you should be able to get 5.1 surround sound IF you go into your sound driver and reset the connections as needed. I'm pretty sure you can set the individual sound outputs to front, center, surround etc etc as you please. To get your mic plugged in you'd need to have the "HD front panel audio module" in place on your case. I doubt your desktop remote will easily connect to both the front of your case and the back of your case at the same time without an additional extension cord for your mic plug. But I don't have your motherboard or headphones, so I can't be sure.
