Running an internet server. Help please.

Ok basically i want to try and runn an internet server.
I am installing linux or unix and a file server that im building soon.
How can i make it so other ppl can view the web pages online, or do i need to pay for a DSN (www.<???>.***) or something like that.

just want to know if something like this is possible from a home computer, i have T1 internet connection so thats not a problem.

It should be possible to make a directory available on line if you have a fixed IP address. Although without a web address there would be no DNS and therefore you would not be findable with a search.

You have to configure your router to allow web access to the server and of course you have to put some webserver software on the server.

You can register a free hostname in places like dyndns.org. You can do it with a dynamic IP addres even.
