Russian blogger given 3.5-year suspended jail sentence for playing Pokémon Go in church

When I saw the title of the article, I assumes he was running around during a church service, disrupting it. It sounds like he was not doing anything more than a tourist taking pictures would do. I'm certain the kids of our church have caught many pokemons in and around our building. Since he did it to spite the government on this issue, it was very stupid. Glad it didn't get any worse and I hope he learns from this. Russia is far from free.

People not religion.
Well Clifford, as an atheist, I'm going to suggest it's "people, acting in the name of religion".

Keeping in mind I believe I said, "throughout the ages", here's a few highlights: The Crusades, The Spanish Inquisition, a multitude of religious and ethnic purges, the crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth, and in recent times, the destruction of the World Trade Center.

It's easy for both of us to get bogged in a "which came first, the chicken or the egg" conundrum.

But the truth is, the human species can't live up to religious tenets, and very well may distort and scapegoat its concepts for selfish purposes. Remember, the US was formed, (specifically "New England"), primarily by the Pilgrims being driven out of England for lack of adherence to the tenets of the Church of England. Did they fall, or were they pushed, the egg asked the chicken.

Anyway, here's Loreena McKennitt with her truly elegant musings on the topic:

I won't argue that point. But it is still misguided people not the religion to blame.
Yes, religion is an abstract framework of unattainable ideals, which the human race distorts and modifies to suit its private objectives. It all comes under the heading of "ulterior motives", and once an individual attains, "the age of reason", those factors cannot be separated from the personality.

I'm going to hang out for a while longer here, while I wait for, "the meek to inherit the earth". Based on that quote, religion could best be typified as, "a topical analgesic for the soul". It seems to take the pain away, but does nothing cure the root ailment.

Back to topic, the "god fearing people" who handed out this truly bizarre punishment, could very correctly, be lumped under the heading of, "religious zealots, fanatics, lunatics", or "D, all of the foregoing".

I just say, "kick the ungrateful game boy out of the church, thereby denying him your imaginary salvation".

Jesus declared all foods 'clean' thus removing any religious restrictions on what Christians can eat. The Roman Catholic Church (& maybe Orthodox) later added the restriction to eating fish on Friday. It is a Church Tradition and not a requirement of the religion.
Learn something new everyday - and I was raised strict catholic.
