Following numerous recent rumors, Samsung has finally unveiled its Galaxy Core -- the company's upcoming and purportedly lower-end smartphone offering. Samsung says the device is poised to arrive this month in "select markets". A wider launch of a second variant (possibly the U.S. version) is slated for July.

The first model to be released will allow for dual sim cards -- a somewhat atypical attribute often reserved for International feature phones. As we creep into the future though, we may be seeing more devices equipped with dual-sim card technology... or at least that seemed to be a subtle take-home message from this year's MWC.

Phones equipped with two active sim cards enable owners to be connected simultaneously to two different accounts (or even services). This allows for a single cell phone to have two separate numbers which, amongst other benefits, can help ease the pain of international travel. Although Samsung doesn't indicate what markets will see the Galaxy Core first, its most recent dual-sim offerings have primarily launched in Europe.

Hardware specifications for the Galaxy Core are modest; it will be a 4.3-inch WVGA (480x800) smartphone equipped with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM. The device will also feature 8GB of internal storage, a microSD slow and a standard-fare 5-megapixel camera.

The Galaxy Core will ship with Android 4.1 and include Samsung's usual suite of "smart" features like Smart Stay, S Voice and Smart Alerts.

Similar to the gadget-maker's Galaxy Note 8.0 announcement, information regarding prices and specific release details remain unknown. However, past rumors indicate the device may weigh in around $430.

This type of phone makes sense to me. I wasted money buying a S3 instead of a mid range phone. Won't make the same mistake again.
