When I install an SATA hard drive and install Windows, do I really need the SATA raid motherboard driver or is that for multiple hard drives?

Generally, the RAID motherboard drivers are for the SATA controller as a whole, both normal operation & RAID. Yes, you will most likely need them to install windows. Hope this helps!

It's likely a good idea to install them but only needed if Windows fails to supply generic drivers.
