Hi,
I got a Maxtor 40gb brand new hdd. I tried to install it as slave but, when I enter My Pc I cant see the disc.
Bios recognize it but windows does not.
I have tried all jumper/IDE configurations. I have also another hdd and that disc has no problem at all, i can use it at slave without problems(maybe because that disc has winxp Prof. installed, i guess), but the new one I bought doesnt. I dont know if I have to format the disc in order to be recognized by Windows, but the problem is that I cant do it since I cant see the Hdd in My Pc´s screen.
Any help is welcome.

do you have a CDROM assigned to D:\ ? move it up to E: or F: and then
reboot

I guess your problem is partitioning the drive.

Go to: Start/Control Panel/Performance and Maintanence/Administrative Tools/Computer Management

Then on the left panel click: Disk Management

Since bios recognizes it, you should be able to see your new harddrive in the window. Right click and format.

That should do.

if it cam with disc utility you should be able to use that to format
but as Xtra stated this should work ,please let us know one way or other
