Hi, as you can see from the title of the thread, my computer has been rebooting on its own for no reason. At first I thought it was just when I burn dvds but as it turns out this is not the case. I'm not tech-minded so please have patience with me, from reading other threads and troubleshooting issues I hope I can provide all the information necessary. After the reboot Windows warns me that it has encountered a serious system error. This is the information I can give you from my Event Viewer, and I have also saved and attached the .dmp file for the last time this happened:

Category (102)
Event ID: 1003

I only reformatted this pc about 3 weeks ago and I hope to not have to do it again. Also, if this is a driver issue or something similar, reformatting may not solve the problem if I install the same apps. I do do a lot of downloading from the net but I doubt this is a trojan or virus, though you never know. This pc is linked to a local Linux server which we use instead of a router, but the networking program has been written by a software specialist and I know nothing about it except for how to open and close ports (we don't even have a monitor or keyboard hooked up to it), but we've been using this system for a couple years with no problems. I hope someone hear my cry for help and comes to my rescue.

Thanks,
dap

See if you can update your sound card drivers. Sound card drivers are known to crash with bugcheck C2 (especially Creative).

BugCheck C2, {7, cd4, 24c0017, 8472ada8}
Probably caused by : e10kx2k.sys ( e10kx2k+dd26 )
Image name: e10kx2k.sys Timestamp: Mon Nov 05 13:02:30 2001 (3BE60F56) <-- 2001!

ok thanks, will see if there are new drivers and let you know if that helps :)
(found SBAX_PCDRVBETA_US_2_18_000.exe, will go install it now)

Unfortunately my pc rebooted while i was installing the driver :dead:
I'm going to try again, but just wanted to post the details of the error this time, I don't know if anything would be different but I can't make heads or tails of it.

This is what the screen which came up said, telling me that my pc has recovered from a serious fault:
Error signature
BCCode : 1000007e BCP1 : C0000005 BCP2 : F6D1B3F9 BCP3 : F7CAE5F0
BCP4 : F7CAE2EC OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 256_1

It also gave me the location of the .dmp file, but it's not there (??)

From Event Viewer:

Will try installing the driver again

Well I've installed the driver, so far so good, but the comp doesn't exactly reboot on command so I'll have to check it out for a while. Thanks so much, I hope this solves it :)
