  1. Shuttle has launched its latest ultra-compact nettop PC, the XS35. Already on virtual shelves around the Web, the 1.5-inch thick machine comes in three preconfigured flavors to accommodate various budgets: one "made for every day" ($220) another "for media" ($280) and the last is "for HD" ($380). They're all outfitted with a dual-core 1.66GHz Intel Atom D510 CPU, built-in 802.11n wireless, five USB ports, VGA-out, and a 4-in-1 card reader.

I hate when these discriptoions say "for HD" when it doesn't have a bluray player....

You have to wonder where this fits in. Considering many companies already have HD streaming media players on the market on smaller form factors and power usage, and this offering from Shuttle doesn't really seem to be in the high end HTPC area. Sony have internet capability built into some of their newer TVs, not sure that will take off but you have to wonder where this product fits between media steaming devices and HTPCs. I wish all the hardware companies would get together than agree on some sort of standard. So much redundancy. Internet on TV, internet via console, media streaming via console, media streaming/IPTV via set top box (Sky, BTVision, VirginMedia etc. etc.), internet and media streaming via HTPC(and now we have wireless video coming too so more people might have their PCs hooked up to TVs as well as their monitors...). I have a feeling a lot of people are going to be left with betamax devices :p
