things look/feel pretty good! only thing that is weird is that I can't start windows firewall service. not sure if it can get "deleted" but I see no way to start/stop it.

do you even recommend running windows firewall? a 3rd party package? I know Norton suite has kind of turned it self around the last few versions.

We have registry key missing.

Following steps involve registry editing. Please create new restore point before proceeding!!!

Unzip the file.
You'll find several files inside.
Double click on mpssvc.reg file and confirm the prompt.
Restart computer.
Post new FSS log.
 
ill check out seven. in the meantime, my java install seems to be pretty messed up. is there any way to fully uninstall all versions of java and start fresh? will that javara program do it? currently it says in my program list in control panel I have java 6 and 7 installed but I can't uninstall them.

I need to have java 7 update 5 in both 64 and 32bit installed on my system and I can't seem to do it.
 
Security Check says you have Java(TM) 7 Update 5 installed.
If you want to play around....

Revo Uninstaller is more thorough in deleting programs on your computer than using the Add/Remove option in Windows. Since it is a more powerful tool, please be sure to follow the instructions carefully.

Please note there is a chance when you look for this program to uninstall through Revo it might not be listed because of the previous uninstall. If that is the case simply stop and let me know.
  • Please download and install Revo Uninstaller Free
  • Double click Revo Uninstaller to run it.
  • From the list of programs double click on the program you want to remove
  • When prompted if you want to uninstall click Yes.
  • Be sure the Moderate option is selected then click Next.
  • The program will run, If prompted again click Yes
  • When the built-in uninstaller is finished click on Next
  • Once the program has searched for leftovers click Next.
  • Check the items in bold only on the list then click Delete. You may have to expand some folders by clicking the "+" mark.
  • When prompted click on Yes and then on Next.
  • Put a check on any folders that are found and select Delete
  • When prompted select Yes then Next
  • Once done click Finish.
 
so it looks like it uninstalled java 6 successfully but when I try to install a 32 bit java 7 in a different installtion direction than 64bit it gives me an error that a version is already installed...

I know this isn't virii malware related so I don't want to waste much of your time!
 
ran reg fix and firewall problem is still there

Please go to Start=>Run (alternatively use Windows key+R), type regedit and click OK.
Registry Editor will open.

Navigate to : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MpsSvc
Right click on MpsSvc, click "Permissions" then "Add" button, type "Everyone", click OK, tick "Full control" in "Allow" box, click OK, close registry editor.

Navigate to : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\wscsvc
Right click on wscsvc, click "Permissions" then "Add" button, type "Everyone", click OK, tick "Full control" in "Allow" box, click OK, close registry editor.

Go to Start=>Run (alternatively use Windows key+R), type cmd and click OK.

followed your directions. there was a "error:5" when I tried to start the firewall with net start mpssvc

also, just some other weird quirks:

something definitely happened with my network settings. I can't see my computer on the network anymore (streaming video from it from my nas usually the shared folders pop up but now nothing shows up even though I have the folders shared). also my network scanner no longer see my computer. tried restarting my router/computer but still doesn't show up.

any ideas what knocked me off my internal network? definitely was working before virus hit.
 
That may be a subject to a different forum.

We have to fix firewall issue.

Download Windows Repair (all in one) from this site

Install the program then run

Go to step 2 and allow it to run Disc check

On the the Start Repairs tab. Click the Advanced Mode and click Start

Click on box next to the Restart System when Finished. Then click on Start

Super Broni! One more weird thing going on: when I go to a website from say google search results it takes me to the wrong page, usually an ad page. I click back to the results and click the same link again and it will take me to the right link.

must be some sort of adware right?
 
  1. Go to Start > All Programs > Google Chrome > Uninstall Google Chrome.
  2. Delete your user profile information, like your browser preferences, bookmarks, and history, by selecting the "Also delete browser data" checkbox.
  3. Select the default browser you'd like to use.
  4. Click OK in the confirmation prompt.
Install fresh copy.
