In a single-channel memory controlelr, when the ram is working at its optimum speed of 200mhz (400 DDR), it provides 3.2GB/s (hence the PC3200 name).
In dual-channel, each channel (consisting of one or more memory modules) provides 3.2GB/s & they (in theory) add up to amount to 6.4 GB/s. It does not double the performance of your system & when you compare two Athlon64s running at the same speed, the peformance increase of the dual-channel part over the single-channel one is around 5% to 10%. Nothing dramatic.
