I was quite disturbed to find that after buying my amd64 3400+ on a 747 mb my friend told me this would not support the dual channel memory feature. Is this true?! :(

Thanks for the help.

So youre saying that my ram is not quite as quick than dual channel on a 754 than a 939?, what cpus are compatible with dual channel? How much differnce does this make to speed?

In a single-channel memory controlelr, when the ram is working at its optimum speed of 200mhz (400 DDR), it provides 3.2GB/s (hence the PC3200 name).

In dual-channel, each channel (consisting of one or more memory modules) provides 3.2GB/s & they (in theory) add up to amount to 6.4 GB/s. It does not double the performance of your system & when you compare two Athlon64s running at the same speed, the peformance increase of the dual-channel part over the single-channel one is around 5% to 10%. Nothing dramatic.
