Slow, so slow! and confused

Whist pretending to know about all this stuff, sometimes you need the real experts.
I've got more system "tools" than I could possibly need, and now I don't know what works, what doesn't and whats just bad.
Any help is gratefully recieved.

I don't think you will ever fully quicken it up with Panda Global Protection 2009
This program has been reported to slow down any average computer

Usually I recommend simple free Antivirus softwares like: Avast or Avira

Would you recommend an additional firewall with Avast?

Not really

Windows Firewall already stops anything coming in
You may just need to learn to browse safely

Many users use Zone Alarm if you're overly concerned
