So you only have PCI slots and want to game?

I've done some research on compatibility with older systems and have since learned that if your computer is more than a few years old, and you upgrade the video card to one of the more powerful models designed in recent years, there's a fair chance you'll overpower the rest of the system graphics-wise and degrade rather than enhance overall system performance. If you have an older system (PII, K6 etc.) with only PCI slots and want to upgrade the video card, check out the review at http://www.sudhian.com/index.php?/articles/show/445 . Although you may be hard-pressed to find the cards reviewed in this article for sale at modern computer parts retailers, many of these models (both new and used) can be found up for auction on Ebay.

Hi
finally my new diamond x1300 pci is here, a friend recently went to usa (im from south america) and bought me one, in only few days i will be able to test it, of course ill paste here my 3dmark results...
im very happy just about that
, well maybe a little out of topic what i want to tell this to somebody, he forgot to bring my athlon thunderbird 1,4 ghz for my old compaq computer (an old duron 700 mhz), im really so sad about that, thats the best processor i can fit onthat motherboard, i think i just have to wait a little more :(

Hi guys,

I have been searching for a new graphics card on the net for hours now and found this site by accident :)

Have read this thread (altho the majority of it went over my head), I am having the same problems as a few others - i only have PCI slots, no PCI-e and no AGP.

My question is, is there a PCI card that is pixel and vertex shader 2.0 compatable, or am i going to have to replace the motherboard or the PC?

My system is a Dell 2400, with a 3.06 processer and 1 gig of ram (dont know if that makes a difference but i put it anyway lol)

Sorry in advance if this question is asked elsewhere in the forum, its late and i am ready to launch my PC out the window :(

If you're willing to pay for it, the ATI Radeon X1300 PCI card supports 3.0 shaders. It should be the fastest PCI card available.

Regards

P.S. Welcome to Techspot!! :)

The GeForce 6200 PCI also has Shader Model 3.0 but there is no PCI card I know of that has Shader Model 2.0 support. I think the 6200 is ur best bet as a cheaper alternative to the X1300 PCI. Why do u need one anyways? To run Aero on Windows Vista? Or to game?

I need one to game - specifically Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. In the system requirements for the game it says to play it you need pixel and vertex shader 2.0 compatable hardware. I tried to play the 10 day trial and the game wont even start because my card is only 1.4.

The X1300 is PCI? I searched the web and i could only find PCI-e versions :(

Just make sure you have enough power.... I have a NEW GeForceFX 5500 PCI running in my Compaq and I (think) I'm pushing my 250W to the limit...

Nice vnf4ultra...

The 6200 PCI would be the best at the price vs performance point. Great to hear Newegg has it in stock again.

What about the ATI Radeon X1300?

The X1300 is just too expensive for being a normal PCI card. I think the 6200 is the best choice ;)

loooks like diamond are using this core too
http://www.diamondmm.com/X1550PRO256P.php
but this time its on their stealth series not the diamond...
and with lower clocks than the HIS, but with 128 bit.
ive been told that the x1550 uses the same x1300 core, ... i dont know
we need some benchmarks here, i was going to buy the diamond x1300, now i have to wait a little

The X1550 is just an overclocked version of the X1300 with the core shrunk to 80nm vs. 90nm. The X1550 would definitely be better, but I don't know how much. The price is a little ridiculous considering that you could get one for $65 for PCI-Express. It just seems like it goes past the point of diminishing returns.

Nice find. I honestly can't believe they are still releasing "new" pci cards, but it can't be a bad thing I guess.

550/800Mhz 64 bit tho. vs X1300's
450/533Hmz 128-bit

EXTREME BENCH OFF needs to happen.

Hmm, I never heard of this, must be new. How did I now hear of it :suspiciou ? Anyway...

Many people buying Dell Dimensions :haha: ! A student in my Biology class has a father who is the executive of Dell, I neve would have guessed either, his son has no incredible knowledge of computers ;) .
