Some sort of virus....

I recently noticed symptoms of a very anoying virus on my PC. Internet explorer windows open randomly, and when they do, its between 20-30 windows at a time. I also keep getting a ballon that says "system live protect action required". I ran AVG, and SS&D. I tried to use hijackthis, but when i go to install it, it gets corupted immediatly. THere is also just general slugishness on the computer. I'm getting a mac next week, but want to fix this computer first. All help is greatly appreciated.
