My daughter had my laptop now it doesn't work. She told me that one day it would just not stay on. I figured she got a virus so was doing a total restore from the restore disks. It is an older laptop so the battery is not so good so we keep it plugged in all the time.

When doing the restore it will get through the first disk and part way through the second about 8-10 minutes total then it stops and goes blank. I changed the battery charger and got a few more minutes but still just shuts down.

I would love to fix it rather than buy a new one. Any ideas? Never had this happen to me before.

There is probgably nothing you can do... besides taking it to a repair shop, or buying a new laptop

there's an issue considered with all sony laptops with AthlonXP-M CPUs. due to some current disturbances in the CPU PWM controller, the CPU becomes dead. i replaced 5 or 6 CPUs(all were AthlonXP-M).
