Sound will go and i have to restart

Hi i have a computer that is about 2 years old now and the problemhas only started in the last few months. The sound will go without warning. By go i mean just stop completely, Even if speakers are on full and the the sound option in the task bar is turned up, it will not play sound. It especialy happens when i am on dawn of war.

Dawn of war is a war hammer game. It has been out for a long time so i think my sound card is compatible but i cant remember how to get that up.

Any help would be great, i know i haven't given allot of information above but i cant think of anything else that might be useful. Thanks in advance

Does it happen if say your playing an MP3 or watching a film, if not then it may be the game causing the hiccup, have you tried uninstalling the game and then running defrag on the drive and the reinstalling it.

Yes occasionally but mostly when i play the game.

I'd settle for a way to fix it without restarting, if there isn't a permanent fix
