Sprint and Best Buy have slashed the price of the Nexus S 4G smartphone to $100. The Android 2.3 (codenamed Gingerbread) device originally made its debut on Sprint on May 8, 2011 for $200. The Nexus S 4G features 16GB of internal memory, 512MB of RAM, a 1GHz Hummingbird processor, a dedicated GPU, front and rear facing cameras, and NFC support.

The price cut is most likely coming now as Google prepares the launch of its next Nexus phone. If you want to save some cash, and makes sure to get a device that is constantly updated with the latest Android builds from Google, the Nexus S 4G is a solid choice. If you have some extra buck, make sure to wait a few more months because the rumors and leaks that started last month are quite juicy.

Google's third Nexus phone is rumored to ship around Thanksgiving, powered by an OMAP 4460 processor. There won't be physical Android menu buttons below the display — everything is said to be software-based. Other rumored specification include a 4G LTE radio, 1GB of RAM, 1080p HD video capture and playback, a 1-megapixel front-facing camera, and a 5-megapixel rear camera "delivering class-leading image quality in addition to superior low-light performance."

To add to the hype, the handset's 720p screen will supposedly be branded as a "Super AMOLED HD" display, suggesting that Samsung may be the manufacturer. The current codename for the device is Prime, and it's possible that the phone will launch as the Google Nexus Prime. It's also being speculated that Google could be working with multiple carriers and multiple OEMs on their own exclusive Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) halo devices, and that they may all launch around the same time.
