startup problems

Hi, I had a blue screen error (bad_pool_header) in windows xp. Then rebooted the computer. The motherboard screen came up like normal then there was a single beep all power to the keyboard and mouse went out and there just was a black screen. Normally this is when xp would boot up. I have no idea what's going on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've seen this when there has been problems with memory and and another time when there was problem with graphics card.

check memory by trying a new one or removing each module till bad one isolated.

on the other ocasion i checked memory which was ok, i tried a different graphics card and that worked too.
