Strange error while booting windows

  1. Hi,
I have a problem to which I have not found a solution anywhere. My difficulties started with a bluescreen appearing at startup. To my knowledge I hadn't installed any soft- firm- or hardware during the previous session. I restarted and the screen in which are listed the different booting modes (Safe Mode etc.) appeared. When I select any of the booting modes, the booting starts, however after a few seconds the screen goes completely black. If I press any key the computer just restarts.
    Here are my hardware specs:

    CPU Athlon XP 3200+
    Mobo Asrock k7nf2-RAID
    HD Seagate Caviar something

Btw I tried installing Ubuntu Linux after my difficulties began but I got a Kernel Panic during installation. Don't if these problems are related.

I forgot to mention that I tried the recovery disc but I got an error notification which said that an unexpected error has occured.
