Any help would be appreciated......I've posted on another board but all suggestions thus far have fallen flat.
Here's the jist of my issue..
I had a new pc built....I used a drive from the previous pc that had XP on it as the main hard drive. I also added in two other drives.
(quick sidenote: I'm very much a novice here. I know a fair amount, but some terms still are new to me so bear with my ignorance.)
The pc was/is running fine for the most part.....however, one reoccurring problem persists...
When I try to open a video (via Winamp, or MS Mediaplayer) it opens, plays for about 2 seconds, then stutters/freezes up and blue screens and reboots. The same thing happens when I shut down VUZE, my file sharing program, MagicDisc or Nero....the programs open ok, work ok...but when I shut them down (80% of the time) I get the blue screen.....
I can play all my music files no problem, I can have AVG running, winamp, my online brokerage windows based program and other up and running fine with no problems...also no problems when I shut them down...but if I open a video, everything goes kerplunk!
When the pc reboots I get the error message and when I click on details here's what it say's:
the error reads that there was a problem with:
F:\DOCUME~1\KNIGHT~1\LOCALS~1\TEMP\WER7a1d.dir00\mini080808-05.dmp
and
F:\DOCUME~1\KNIGHT~1\LOCALS~1\TEMP\WER7a1d.dir00\sysdata.xml
I can type out what the full blue screen say's if necessary. I took a snap shot of it once when it crashed.
based on the research I've done I've read that it could be due to a power supply problem or corrupt memory. Everything in the pc is brand new other than the one drive that has XP and some of my other info on it.
Again, the pc runs smoothly and works great other than when I try to open a video and play it, regardless of size.
the following are installed:
- ASUS P5K-E LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard
- CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX 550W ATX12V V2.2 Power Supply
- G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK
I have no idea what could be causing this problem (obviously). I was going to try to run memtest? Yeah right, way to complicated for me.
If anyone has anyone ideas it would be greatly appreciated, and maybe the best thing to do is to just take it in somewhere, I just hesitate to let anyone work on my pc at some random repair shop.
If it's not against the rules on this forum to offer some compensation then consider it offered. If that is breaking the rules, my apologies.
Thanks in advance for any ideas or suggestions...
