System Restore?

By jak27
May 18, 2009
  1. I just did a system restore from a backup from last week. The reason for the restore is because I think I may have gotten malware last night. Since I just did this restore does that mean its gone(IF it was there?)

    maybe -- maybe not. All depends how far back the infection was inserted into
    your system.

    see this to see if you are clean

    As I said the possible malware was last night, so I did a back up from last week and just scanned the laptop and nothing was found so that means I should be good.

    You should be OK unless the malware infected your registry. I would run Hijack this to be sure and someone here to check it for you.

    Using the Restore Point has REPLACED the entire registry so if you're clean now so is the registry.

    do some house-keeping;
    • run Disk Cleanup to empty old surfing residue
    • turn OFF System Restore (which will delete ALL existing restore points)
    • and then turn it back ON to get a current R.P.
