Task Manager/System Restore Problems

My computer got some kind of trojan virus and when I press ctrl+alt+del to go to the task manager...it's gray meaning I can't click on it. Also my system restore doesn't work. It says that it has been removed from my OS. I have Windows Xp Professional, I know the best thing to do would be to wipe my hard drive and reinstall windows...but I don't have the cds. Any suggestions as how to get these functions working again would be awesome. Thanks.

Sounds like you're still infected.

To get your Task Manager back go to:

Start > Run,Type "gpedit.msc"
User Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Ctrl+Alt+Del Options.
Set Remove Task Manager to Disabled.

Run a full virus scan/clean (If you don't have an AV product installed, then use http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ or http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html)

Run a spyware scan, if you don't have one then download something like Bulletproof Spyware Remover http://www.bulletproofsoft.com/

Scan your machine and get rid of those blighters!

Don't use System Restore as you'll only restore the virus...
