If you don't use them, you can always remove them from your taskbar.
  • Start Menu
  • My computer (Documents or similar)
  • Windows Media Player
  • An HP utility of some kind. (possibly an updater)
  • I don't recognize
  • Firefox
  • I don't recognize

You tried hovering mouse pointer over the icon to see what description/name comes up or right clicking on the icon?

Ok, I knew the first one was tthe start button & the one to the right of the FF icon is my SeaMonkey short cut
Mousing over the one to the right of the start button,it says Windows Explorer. Then Windows Media Player & the HP one says HP Advisor & lastly HP MediaSmart. The last two I have no clue as to what they're for.
Thanks for your help. You ought to give SeaMonkey a try,its a nice browser,in the Firefox family. https://www.techspot.com/downloads/2099-seamonkey.html

the HP one says HP Advisor & lastly HP MediaSmart.
I usually ignore HP applications anyway. From my standpoint they are useless applications. After system restores, the manufacturer application were usually un-installed on any machine I have owned in the past.
  • The Advisor sounds like an update utility.
  • The MediaSmart sounds like an application for burning media.
Edit:
Thanks for the tip on SeaMonkey, I will keep that in mind. :)
