Must confess that I find it hard to invest the kind of time that I did 20 years ago! It's also very disappointing when you try to play these games on the big monitors that we now have - it's just not a very good experience.

Some of those games definitely brings back some memories! I remember taking turns with my brother playing some of those games when a 25MHz processor was lightning fast! :)

Sweet. Thanks for the info, I was aware of some of these but it's good to find out about others. Reminds of my good ol' abandonware hunting days ;)

    GTA2 rocks big time!

Oh man, I would love to play red alert again. I have some fond memories ;)

Man, I HATED GTA2. I thought it was such a dog. Even GTA1 was way more fun. I guess that's just my opinion.

    Pretty cool! Fallout 1...must play....
  13. Doom's source code and ports are, of course, completely useless to the vast majority of people without the game's data (which is NOT free, except for the shareware which has been free since the very beginning, and therefore isn't really newsworthy at this point).

What console can say this? There's no such thing as downloading or getting for free an old game on a console platform. PC gaming is where all of the good stuff is!

I'd have to say from this list Wolfenstein Enemy Territory is the best game, so well made and free! If someone remade this game with current generation features they would make a killing.

Not bad! Command and Conquer Tiberium Sun still rocks! Of course, I still wait for the next installment of several other classics, of which I dare to mention the Syndicate series... or the next Command and Conquer Generals!
  18. DOOM is not free or freeware. The engine is open source and freely modifyable/distributable, however the DOOM graphics/sounds/level resources are not. This means you have to find a freeware iwad, or use the shareware iwad file. You cannot obtain or distribute doom.wad or doom2.wad for free.
  19. I got flOw and Gran Turismo HD for free on my PS3...
  20. Trackmania Forever, Some team 17 games, Hidden & Dangerous, Airborne Ranger on Atari site, Midway's area 51 (not that good), Prism (by the National Gaurd), America's Army, Theseus...
