The disk in drive D is not formatted.

Whenever I try to open and run a CD from my CD ROM drive, I get the following message..."The disk in drive D is not formatted. Do you want to format it now? The disk just spins in the drive for a few seconds, stops, and then nothing more happens. Does anyone know why this is happening? Any way to fix this? The drive is a Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-2502 1011. I saw other messages on this board where people were having this same problem with their hard drive, but didn't see any threads on CD ROM Drives. Thanks.

Hi Kim...

Thanks for your reply. I am a computer novice and do not deal with these kinds of problems on a regular basis. I did download a copy of the drive's (Toshiba SD-C2502 1011) firmware. However, I don't know what to do with it. What is firmware? Where and how do I install it? What happens to the old firmware? Do I need to uninstall it first? Is firmware the same as a driver? Thanks. Sorry about my lack of proficiency in this area.

BTW, I downloaded the firmware onto a floppy disk.
