    Alfa Romeo's are something I've owned. :) Awesome cars, but not the most reliable, and rather expensive to maintain, even for a qualified mechanic like myself. lol.

    I should also add that it doesnt need to be lightning fast, just sound so mint it'll make the hairs on the back of my neck stand to attention. :D

    Well that's because Alpha probably make a car to work the way it should for 'a brief time'; but everyone I know who have owned one say it is worth it just for that; I am sure you'd rather have 166 rather than Corolla any day of the year (not to mention 166 looks much better any way ;) )

    By the way have you seen that new Bugatti Veyron (1200 bhp, top speed 267.7 mph), it doesn't make much sound .......... what good a super car is, if it doesn't excite you with its engine noise ?

    Edit:
    By the way the best description of an exhaust's noise award goes to Lamborghini for LP-670-SV:

    This exhaust that ranges from heavy rumble of stormy night, through the trumpeting of mighty elephants, to the roar of a raging lion.

    Now you may get excited just by reading it :p

    @Archean,

    :D

    Without a doubt, Alfa's are oustanding - I've never owned a car with as much character as that had. It was expensive, but it was worth every single penny, even if I did complain at the time. :haha:

    I quite like the Aston Martin V12 engine note as well, It sounds very V8, but with the add bonus of rattly type, burbling, whaling noise I cannot begin to describe... It sounds nice full chat!

    But for me it has to be a fuel injected V8's rumble, with the backround soundtrack of mechanical 'charger whine. Win win for me. :)

    If you listen carefully the supercharger screaming "mercy-mercy" is the very first and very last thing you can audibly hear (after the rumbling and burbling exhaust note dissipates) due to the fact that high pitched noises travel faster than that of the low-down exhaust growls
    Mercedes @ Goodwood festival of Speed 2009

    NB: sounds better online, I downloaded it but only managed to grab "ogg 96kbps stereo"

    I could barely hear it personally, but got some rather strange looks from the wife with it at near full volume! :D

    I love the mechanical whine of a supercharger. If I could afford it, I'd have one on every car I own just to hear it everytime I boot it! :haha:

    How about an supercharged V8 powering your PC ? However, downside will be, you may reboot randomly just to hear it 'revving up' again and gain and ........ you get the idea :rolleyes:

    If only the Coolermaster V8 cooler could satisfy my needs! :haha:

    Time to see if I can make the boot up noises play a V8 engine being started and revved......

    Downside of it can be, if the computer is stationed near bedroom, you may get kicked as far away as garage ....... still it could be worse ;)
  9. Leeky TS Special Forces Posts: 4,357   +68

    It could be, some radiators and it would actually be rather peaceful! :D
  10. Archean TechSpot Paladin Posts: 5,750   +29

    Kevin Mcloud I think said in one of TG's episode that a V8 powered internet connection will deliver 'everything a man can ever dream of' ....... now that isn't a bad idea either (provided it could be made to work somehow) especially if you have couple of radiators sitting next to your PC table :D

    Although, he declared himself an 'ecomentalist' just in case you may want to know.

    No need to be pushed away to the garage....

    with a few modifications to the cabinet (possibly a door with a Auto-window) and you could be in the kitchen with all the other useful household appliances :haha:

    I'm genuinely surprised by the results of this poll, thus far. Yes, the Aston is a very good car, but going on looks alone, the Alfa is just pure, automotive pornography.

    Agreed Lurker, I think 8C should be hanged on a wall (or some similar arrangement) ..... on road it is not something in which many would like to go for a long drive.

    There are a lot of great looking cars to choose from but I really like the Ferrari 458 Italia.

    Varying Views on Religtion.........

    Indeed, and discounting the concept of "original sin" IMHO, "pornography is next to godliness". (Incidentally I think "original sin" was brought to you by the same wonderful people that brought you the, "Holy Roman Catholic Church"). In other words, it carries a lot of weight, but only if you're really, really superstitious.

    Moving on, "they cut off the tops of all the crosses, and the "Year of our Lord", became, "the "Year of our Ford". (Aldous Huxley, from "Brave New World").

    Ford as God works well because we don't want another Mafia offshoot masquerading as our supreme being, as might be the case by taking an Italian car maker's name in vain.

    (The porn vs. godly comparison was all me).

    Sorry for delayed response guys, but I really need to delete the last alert from this thread from my Inbox :p

    @Mizzou
    Yes 458 is a brilliant looking thing, but consider this, you will never know how fast you are going when you eventually crash as its screen can either show how fast your are going (i.e. speedo) or the sat-nav (so if you have speedo on its display probably you'll never know where you are going).

    @Captain
    I am the most ill-equipped person to talk about porn; but somehow I get the feeling that you prefer 'art' over well almost anything else, which isn't a bad thing at all ;).

    Now to end this; Lambo launched Avantador and Bentley has gone mad with this Bentley GT ISR edition and pretty disgusting looking Bugatti Galibier (how on earth you pronounce it) ....... although these 'artful' pictures won't be of that much quality as the 'other art' we are talking about.

    The Bugatti is a nice enough looking saloon, but that's about it. The Alfa will still remain as the most porographically beautiful car out there.
