[SOLVED] The Realtek headache
It all started innocent enough - Remove a virus that SAS, S&D, AVG, and
NORTON could not handle. No biggie. After all, i'm not some computer noob. I'm a
seasoned veteran. This is a piece of cake for me. and sometimes i LIKE the
challenge!
well, mission accomplished. the virus.....
was removed.
but what's this? The bloody thing boffed my registry! UGH.
even though i have my theme sounds, suddenly programs
start insisting they have no default device to play on.
no biggie. i'll simply de-select what my default device is, re-boot, then re-select it,
and re-boot. Peice of cake
oh... wait.. what's this? no effect?
no problem. i'll download the latest RealTek drivers and reinstall my MoBo audio
card.

AH HA! all of these programs use DirectX!!!!
So i simply download and re-install directX 11 from Window's Micro Soft Manhood website.
nope. it changed the error. Instead of saying "No default Device" now it says
"Encountered a problem playing media" type of messages
Ok, so maybe those drivers i downloaded weren't so great.
I'll dig around in boxes for 5 hours and find the DVD that came with the motherboard
and simply un-install and re-install the Chipset AND Audio drivers that came with it.
BOY I'M A SMART ONE!

OK, I'll uninstall the devices, Remove them from device manager, and re-install them after reboot.
now, i have NO sound.
none.
oh, it recognizes it has a device.
it knows i have my headphones and mic plugged in proper.
but at the same time it forgot how to yell at me.
(all my theme sounds yell at me. I think my wife did it to me )
nice to shut up the computer, but ....
after some more fighting with it -
Windows sounds APPEAR to play (volume graphs move)
but RealTek audio manager is missing.
so i'm unable to tell it that i have headphones and not a left speaker in that jack.
(my tower has no front jacks)
Programs say i have no default device set, but i DO, and it IS default.
WMP, games, etc... don't appear to be attempting to make sounds due to this error.
if anyone can help then i'd greatly appreciate it.
i bet it's something simple.
