Precautions on Upgrading an OS

Hi All :

I do not recall reading through these Posts that some "Precautions" should be
taken PRIOR to considering Upgrading an Operating System . From what I have
read from very knowledgeable people One should be reasonably certain that the
computer is malware-free AND check with the computer's manufacturer IF there
are any Updated drivers available to be installed PRIOR to downloading the "new"
Operating System .
I found quite interesting the recent article "Don't let XP SP3 hose your system" by
Scott Dunn and several companion articles in the latest Issue of Windows
Secrets, available at http://WindowsSecrets.com/comp/080911 .
