This week we have had major problems wit our laptop.

When I click on google links i get redrected to some rendom website.
I can no download and anti spyware programmes, I get page can not be displayed
I can not update any defenitions on the software I have.
Most of the links on techspot.com/vb/topic58138 I get page can not be displayed.
I obviously have some spyware/malaware but can not get rid of it.
I tried to download the latest hijackthis, and I could not, page can not be displayed again.
Programmes are starting randomly (Word, excel etc)
What can I do here, please help.

Go to another computer and download the tool below then run it and get the log then reply and attach the log in txt format

* Click here to download HJTsetup.exe
  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Come back here to this thread and Attach the log in txt format your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
 
That will not be until next week. I have v2.0.0 below is that any good for now?

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.**Close HiJackThis.**Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Please go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following (if present):

Now reboot.

Please download the OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Vista users, please right click on OTMoveit2.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste List of Files/Folders to Move" window (under the light Yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • A log of files and folders moved will be created in the c:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder in the form of Date and Time (mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log). Please open this log in Notepad and post its contents in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt2
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. Once you have done this reboot and try to download the newest version of hijackthis

I got as far as Please download the OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer

I can not download it, Explorer just will not connect and Firefox also says it can not connect.

Can it be emaied to me?
 
boot into safemode (with networking) reboot your computer and start tapping the F8 key until you get to the advance option then select safe mode with networking and try to download the newest version of hijackthis and OTMoveIt2

OK well try to use other search engines it could be targeted towards google if it does not work you will have to download it from another computer

Run the tools below

SmitfraudFix

  • Download SmitFraudFix to your deskop
  • reboot your computer in Safe Mode (before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually)
  • Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
  • Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infect files.
  • You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
  • The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
  • A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt (Attach the log to your next reply)
 
I cant open that link, anything to do with antivirus or fixing I cant open, I cant open ny of the links at the bottom of your signature either, I just get an error message saying it can not open the page.

Other links that I click on still take me to random web pages.

No cant open it, I cant seem to open any antivirus links.

I did manage to get combofix onto the laptop though (had to download it onto my mobile phone, then move it to the lapto) I keep getting something about "rootkit" running and needs to reboot. It reboots, then nothing happens.

OK what exactly is it doing you get the blue screen it does its thing then reboots right then after the reboot it should pop the blue screen again then you will get a note pad with text in it

Hi Bob I think I have exactly the same virus Im having exactly the same problems, I probably need to reformat could you please explain how you did it?
