We have ADI-encrypted hard drives on all of our Toshiba photocopiers that we sell. The key from the control board on the drive, has to match the key on the system board.
I played around with one, pulled it, stuck a usb/sata cable on it and plugged it into my laptop. After spinup, it erased automatically. After plugging it back into the copier, it threw an error code because the key had been erased. Once configured again, NONE of the data previous was readable.
