Toshiba Satellite A45-S121 Laptop Restoration Problems

I hope I am in the right section to post this thread?
I have a Toshiba Satellite A45-S121 Laptop; I went to turn it on the other night and all I get is a black screen with this message:

the system could not be restarted from its previous location due to a read failure.

delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu.

Now, when I shut it down, turn it back on, it will not allow me to use the F8 key to begin the restart, reboot, etc....
It ignores that command and just goes right to the black screen with the above message.
I do not have my start menu, mouse does not work,etc...

Do I need to insert a restoration disc??

Any suggestions on how I can get this taken care of??

Thank You!!!
Much appreciated ~

Could you please specify how old your computer is? (I'm guessing 4-5 years old?)
Have there been any hardware changes/upgrades ever?
Do you have important data on it which you need to backup at all?
If you get a read failure, it might be that your HDD is starting to fail.
Have you noticed any abnormal changes with your computer performance lately?

hey!
it is at least 4 years old.

There have been no changes; it has been a great computer with no issues.

I do not have important data....just use it for personal use.

There has been no abnormal changes. Has always ran great.
I only use it about a half hour or hour each night, sometimes not at all.

Any suggestions??

Thanks for such a prompt reply!
I appreciate the support )

I'll need to look into this a little further, in the meantime, next time you boot up your computer, please keep an eye on your HDD light for any activity and please let me know what you see. I can't say for sure, but I think your model has the lights in front.

the Sys/Restore disk that came with will reformat the HD and block load the system to
the exact state you saw on day one.

the READ ERROR may be a nasty indication of a disk failing ...

*maybe* it can be corrected and maybe you're headed for a replacement of
{hd or the entire system} ... but try the restore first :)

Hi!

The lights are one the front, and they still shine green; nothing out of the ordinary.

Thanks again, this is a huge help and I really appreciate it!!

I can install the system/restore disk and it will prompt me what to do from there??

Thanks guys ~
Let's cross our fingers and pray for the healing and restoration of my laptop )
I will keep you posted ~
