I've copying files from one external hard drive to another and though both are USB 3 the transfer rate is 4MB/s or less. What is up? Both drives have been much faster by themselves.

What kinda files? Lots of small files don't do well.

Mainly backups. I left my computer on over night and it's still 50%

The only suggestion I have is this:

Where are the drives plugged in? Let's say you have a desktop tower - are both drives plugged into the front USB ports?

I'd try plugging them into separate back motherboard USB3.0 ports.
