Unable to install W7 Starter after HDD replacement

  1. I have a friends asus netbook and the hdd crashed so I put a new one in it. But when I try to install the os from the recovery disk it always returns an error message that says "press and key to boot from cd of dvd.....missing operating system". Can any one help?

    You may need to contact Asus support. For a work around. I know if you replace a hard drive in Dell or Hp, You run into the same problem, Trying to use the recovery dvd. At least in there older models. You are using a recovery DVD ? Plus did you press the any key to boot from the cd or dvd? Dose missing operating system come up after you press a key to boot from the disk. Sorry for so many question just trying to understand what you have done so far.
