Unmountable boot volume and other errors

Well, this is the 2nd hard drive I have put on my new computer, and it is having the same problems as the first. It tends to make an odd clicking noise, followed by a hum, as if it is turning on and off continuously. These noises are normally accompanied by the computer "skipping." It would freeze for a while, and recover itself. I have also been getting the unmountable boot volume blue screen when trying to boot windows. Using the repair console is not working, gets stuck at around 50% with the chkdsk /r command. An earlier 250 GB hard drive was having similar problems, except when it would click, it would simply crash. I am beginning to think that this is more of a motherboard problem than simply bad luck with hard drives. I have a MSI KT4V mainboard.

Any suggestions or ideas?
