Finally got it to boot up and received ...071 cmos battery bad message....070 real time clock error...and memory good message.

So would the cmos be causing the machine to not boot?

The main battery is reading fully charged.

I thought I saw a 1411 service manual somewhere online in order to locate the cmos.
Anyone know the online location of this manual. (possibly at Lenovo?)

Once a cmos is installed can I just start the computer as normal or do I have to go into bios and do something before that happens?

    Thanks

Replace the CMOS battery, then set the bios to default settings. Reset the date and time... The CMOS battery has nothing to do with the main laptop battery. Is this laptop older than 4 years?

    re

Yes laptop is 11 years old.

would the bad cmos alone keep the machine from booting?

    Thanks

WTF? an 11 year old computer? It's not even a gaming system! Why bother?

Yea, a bad CMOS could prevent machine from booting.
