Upgrade old rig: memory & video card question

I built my own rig awhile back and was looking to update some of the internals to more memory, a faster cpu, new cd/dvd disk drive, and possibly video card (if needed). wanting to do some video editing and son wants to try online computer gaming: World of Warcraft(??) or something along those lines.

Please don't laugh at old specs. It was what I could afford at the time... :)

To start the LGA 775 motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-G41MT-S2PT

I just upgraded from XP to Windows 7 64-bit after doing a clean install.

I changed my old celeron processor for a 2.93 gigahertz Intel Core 2 X6800.

I have 2GB of memory but purchased 8GB of memory G.Skill DDR3-1033 PC3-8500 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231308 but after installing, the computer will not load. Did I get the wrong memory or is this too much? Mobo states it can handle 8GB unless I am missing something.

Finally, looking for a decent video card, nothing extreme but one that can handle the video game mentioned above.

Thanks in advance...
