So i got 2 512mb sticks of ram and removed a 256mb, I put the 2 in and now all that happens when i turn it on is a fan comes on. i tried putting the old ram back in and the same thing happens.

Try resetting the bios by the jumpers, they should be blue, ive seen some that are brown. If you have your manual to your motherboard it will specify where they are.

Grab an eraser from a pencil and clean off the part that goes into the dimm slot on the RAM a little, sometimes this makes all the difference. Be gentle, dont damage anything

Resetting the jumpers as said above is a good idea.

Are you sure its the correct type of RAM for the system? Check the Motherboard manual and make sure your RAM is the correct specs. (unless of course you already did this)

I'm not sure how many dimm slots your board has but are u sure you put them in the correct slots? Are they seated properly in the slots?
