Upgrading CPU Problem PLEASE HELP

  1. Can someone possibly help me here? I currently have a P4 1.6 cpu and bought a 3.0 cpu to swap the 1.6 for. Everything is installed correctly, temp is fine, and my bios is the newest version. I have a Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000 PRO ver 2.0 MB. When I put the 3.0 in it, the computer boots all the way into my desktop then shuts down and reboots. It just does this over and over. It looks fine for a minute at the desktop (everything starting up fine, no locking up), and then just reboots. If I go into the setup of the computer before it boots, this does not happen. I can fool around in the setup for as long as I want. It just does this when it boots int XP. BTW, I am running XP Media center Ed. if that matters. Any ideas? Thanks.

yes, the bios is the newest version. I also made sure of the compatability between the board and the cpu. Actually the board can currently handle any 478 pin cpu up to 3.4.
