I have got hold of a celeron 1.4mhz processor and plan to use it instead of my now very old 766mhz celeron.

1) Is there anything i need to now before hand ?

2) Do you just pop out the old one and stick in the new one like replacing memory ?

3) Do i need to install Intel Application Accelerator or is that only needed if i have problems ( im worried about doing this bit incase i screw my pc up )

4) Any other advice

Thank you in advance for an help

How about filling in your "User Profile" (top left on any screen) so we know if your motherboard is capable of handling that CPU?
Any CPU will need a cooler, that needs to be properly attached, using thermal paste between CPU and cooler. Plenty of posts here telling you how to do that.

Ok i've read the motherboard handbook and it says it can handle 66mhz and 100mhz FSB.

So i went for the fastest 100mhz FSB celeron which is the 1.4mhz.

But i found this on the mircostar web site

Celeron 600 66 9 OK
Celeron 633 66 9.5 OK
Celeron 667 66 10 OK
Celeron 700 66 10.5 OK
Celeron 733 66 11 OK
Celeron 766 66 11.5 OK

Celeron(Coppermine) 800 100 8 OK
Celeron(Coppermine) 850 100 8.5 OK
Celeron(Coppermine) 900 100 9 OK
Celeron(Coppermine) 950 100 9.5 N/A
Celeron(Coppermine) 1G 100 10 N/A
Celeron(Coppermine) 1.1G 100 11 N/A

Celeron (Tualatin) 1AG 100 10 N/A
Celeron (Tualatin) 1.1AG 100 11 N/A
Celeron (Tualatin) 1.2G 100 12 N/A
Celeron (Tualatin) 1.3G 100 13 N/A
Celeron (Tualatin) 1.4G 100 14 N/A
--------------------------------------------look
PIII (Coppermine) 500E 100 5 OK
PIII (Coppermine) 550E 100 5.5 OK
PIII (Coppermine) 600E 100 6 N/A
PIII (Coppermine) 600EB 133 4.5 N/A
PIII (Coppermine) 650 100 6.5 OK

I dont know if they havent tried it or i cannt use that celeron. i mean it is a 100mhz FSB which my motherboard can handle.

MY motherboard is a microstar ms 6178

I'm sure they (MSI) have tried. That CPU unfortunately will NOT work on your motherboard, waste of money.
Only supported for the ones with OK.

check the microstar website they may have a bios update that will let you use the CPU
Good Luck
