Hope I have the correct forum for this..

I have a Dell Dimension that is some 5 years old now.

However, I have no idea what might be a suitable board to use. Can anyone offer some suggestions? Always grateful of any advice.

    Thanks

Tell us the Dimension model and configuration... and how you use it.

Unless you are into serious gaming, and the Dimension is not just a basic model, you may be able to get a lot more out of it with a few practical changes.

If you change the motherboard, then you need to change the power supply, and many Dimensions have a case configuration that do not encourage an easy switch of power supplies... and motherboards.

The model is the 4600. It has 160Gb HD, 512Mb RAM and a 3GHz CPU. There seems to be an awful lot of disc traffic and I suspect that a simple increase in RAM will do wonders.

yeah 2 gigs of ram would do wonders for that system.

That's what I figured. There was a nice link to Crucial. I'd rather forgo a new lappie for Christmas that waste a perfectly good PC. ;)
