So do you think that old Super Flower PSU originally caused the problem? Remember that I tried two brand new PSU with a new mobo and new processor and the same thing happened.

Do you think that the mobo that was delivered yesterday was DOA? Which mobo do you recommend? Is the PSU that I want to get good enough? (see above link)

i4tunecookiei: When you say "but it still doesn't work", do you mean the HDD is still make those repeated clicking noises?
yes, i'm taking my harddrive to my neighbor's, who'll be home soon, i have another harddrive that i used to use in this compuer, i'm putting it in to test out the results of all this testing
What was the result of this? Did your HDD run ok in the other PC? Did your old HDD run ok in your PC? I originally thought it was a HDD failure or a PSU, both would cause the symptons you describe. Can you boot into the BIOS? Hold the DEL key as soon as you power up. If you can look for the menu that looks like this:
http://www.cpuplanet.com/features/article.php/30231_1570371_2
Is your HDD listed? Make sure it is set to AUTO detect. That's the only change you should make. Save and exit. Describe your symptons now please (i.e has anything changed)

gmcerlan: OK somehow in my last I missed that you are currently building a NEW system. It was a long day at work, got home late and I was tired. Have you done this before? I've built 2 systems now from scratch and both powered right up no probs. So you're on your second mobo and you think that is dead too? OMG hopefully not, that would be the worst run of luck. So lets go on the premise all your parts are good for now, including the PSU.

1) Double check you've installed the CPU and heatsink/fan properly and the fan is plugged into the mobo. Mount mobo to case. VERY IMPORTANT: ensure you have used all mounting harware correctly. Use the insulting washer for the mounting screws, if they come with the mobo. You do not want to accidently ground the mobo to the case.
2) Reseat your RAM, ensure you are using the correct type for the mobo and the corrrect slot(s) (sometimes the order matters)
3) install video card and HDD.
4) Ensure all PSU are connected to the mobo, HDD and secure. Make sure you have the case power switch connected to the mobo correctly!!! Without this there is noway to tell the PSU to turn on! (check mobo manual)
5) Plug in power supply and turn on back switch. Now press case switch. Watch her hum to life!!! :bounce:

cheers

I've built a few systems myself and know how to correctly install the components. I spent all day Wednesday and Thursday trying out different components and retrying them again in different combinations (most brand new). I have come to the conclusion that my new mobo is DOA. Can you look at the two different mobos and tell me which you think is the best. If those two are not good, can you recommend something for a 754 socket type? Also, can you look at the new PSU that I want to get and tell me your opinion? I just need a second opinion.

hi, yes, my HDD run okay, my old HDD ran okay too. i can't get to the BIOS cuz the monitor doesn't even get the signal to turn on.

after doing some tests, i think i can describe the problem in greater detail now

when i turn on my computer, i said i here the CLICKing sound, but in addition, i also hear something that is trying to spin but can't. like u said, it might be the HDD, but when i unplugged the HDD, i still hear it, so then i tried different things and figured out that it's my DVD player (no, there's no cd's inside). So i unplugged the DVD player and let my computer start again. this time i hear it more clearly (without the spinning sound that i mistake to be clicks). the CLICKING sound only happens ONCE, and my HDD spins well (according to the sound). My monitor still doesn't get the signal to turn on, i don't know what is happening. Does this information narrow down the problem? let me know.

You probably have a dead mobo, but it might be the cpu.

You can have the cpu tested at your local pc repair shop for just a few dollars.

If the cpu checks out ok, then it`s your mobo.

Regards Howard :)

Howard I refuse to surrender without a few more questions asked. Stubburn like mule. :suspiciou

i4tunecookiei: Do you hear any beeps? Do you think it's actually booting up and entering windows but you just have no video? If it is you should hear only 1 beep, no more no less. Listen carefully because it last 0.5 to 1sec. If there is no beep, then lets sum up.
1) Your HDD is working.
2) You've purchased a new PSU and installed it correctly (assume) ;)
3) but still no post.

Conclusion: Howard is most likely correct and you should follow his advice and take your PC into a local PC shop and have it checked. Probably a died CPU or mobo.

gmcerlan : I will get back to you soon. Sorry I did not mean to sound condescending, I was not aware of your PC build experience.
