When i start the computer i see that the USB devices are receiving power. As soon as the windows logo / loading screen pops up the USB devices die. I get to the user login screen but i cannot do anything because my computer only has usb ports for my mouse/keyboard.

I do not want to reformat my hard drive due to having many family pictures stored on the computer.

What went wrong?

How can i fix it?

Thanks

As captain requested, pls tell us your specs

And a couple other points
1) See [post=766270]How to recover your folders/files when Windows won’t boot[/post] should you want to first backup your data before troubleshooting.

2) Have you tried booting into Safe Mode? Do you have the same problem?

1) You should also tell us the make/model of your computer

2) Does the problem also occur when you boot into Safe mode? or just Normal Mode?

3) If Safe Mode works or if you have a PS/2 port available? then you could try See [post=751005]How to Reinstall Your USB Controllers and Motherboard Chipset Drivers[/post]

4) If all else fails, you could also try an XP REPAIR install
