USB not detecting by my desktop

hii.......i have a major problem.my usb device is not detected by my computer. but it is detected whenever i switch off my computer directly that is without turn off i do direct power off.

so every time i have to directly power off my computer to get mu useb detected??.....what is the reason as it is harming my system to power off directly..so plz suggest me??

When did this problem become apparent?

my configuration is amd sempron 1.6ghz,448 mb ram,asus motherboard.........its three years old.........

so due to regular direct switching off and on so usb get detected my computer my system is hanging frequently.........plz send suggestions
