USB slots not working

    my friend has a strange laptop, and whenever he needs to plug sumthin in that needs drivers, such as a webcam, his comp doesn't read it, buta PnP usb thing works. need help... :hotouch:

    What sort of laptop is it? What Operating system is he running on it? does his user account have administrative rights? Does he insall the drivers for the USB devices before they are plugged in?

    If you could provide as much information as possible it would be helpful :)

    Make/Brand: I-Friend
    OS: XP Home
    RAM: not much
    Admin: Yes.
    USB Drivers... they r almost always installed first. but for some reason the Laptop just doesn't recognise them.

    the problem is in the broken southbridge chip.
