Man, this Playstation 2 thing must be really getting over on my kid! My Son has just spent the last 2-3 days with his mother, he gets back and no more than maybe 20 to 30 minutes later he's begging and pleading for some PS2 time. I'm like what? Doesn't your Mothers boy toy have a PS1 and a PS3 and a 360, doesn't he let you play? No Dad, he won't let me touch the suckers! Alright kid, you can get on my PS2 and play!

Here is the big guy, ripping up the track, playing ATV Off Road Fury 3........

Man, he was acting a little like a drug addict, or like a pets owner waving a piece of tuna to a cat, meow, meow, meow, meow.......Daddy please, Daddy please, Daddy please......kind of sounds like the same thing to me! :)

    -Good times I guess-

Alright buddy! Thanks for getting my video game mouth to salivate! This Dropship thing looks hot! I got to see if I can get a line on this one, maybe in the pre-owned department of my favorite Gamestop's!

    Very nice recommendation! :)

This Was A Real Drag.....At Least For A While...

Well folks, this didn't take very long to have happen! But earlier this afternoon, while playing on my PS2 system, the damn thing broke! The system apparently suffered a "dual malfunction" all within the span of a couple minutes. The first thing to go was the fact that I noticed that my Sony PS2 "Dual Shock" controller was no longer vibrating at all, that part of it's functionality went bye bye! Then within 30 seconds of that, the CD drive started to make terrible sounds, I've been in the computer industry long enough to know that a CD drive only has a couple more minutes of life in it, when emitting metal on plastic grinding sounds. I was able to get the game disk out of the drive quick enough, a split second after getting the disk out the system tuned itself off. Be aware, the system was never able to come back on again, it was dead! :dead:

So I went on-line to Gamestop's web site, looked up pre-owned PS2's, found a store and with my unit and stuff I went there and had to exchange the unit out with another. Now this might have been the universe working in strange ways! For when I was inside the store and inspecting the exchange unit, I glanced at it's model number, mine that died was a 3000 series, this newer one was a 5000 series. Also this unit had a built in I.R. sensor for I.R. devices, my old 3000 required a sensor to be plugged into a controller port. So the exchange went through, got the unit home set everything back up and when going through it's configurations, I noticed several more "stock" options to choose from, that my old 3000 didn't have.

This sucker doesn't require my two matching Katana wireless PS2 controller I.R. sensors to reside inside both game controller ports, this unit supports remote controls and wireless game controls with it's built in sensor. :) Also lucky for me all the accessories I purchased for my old 3000 works with this newer 5000. :)

Also seeing the fact I was already at a Gamestop, I went ahead and picked up Lego's Star Wars "Original Trilogy", I also got a wired Guitar Hero guitar controller and the games Guitar Hero I & II.

So now everything is back to normal, but it was sure nerve racking and many being pissed off sessions in the mean time!

I guess the good luck didn't work then.

  7. Zen TechSpot Paladin Posts: 938   +40

Nahhhh..............don't worry about any "good luck" statement on your end not working. I think things actually turned out for the better! For some reasons things are actually working better with this 5000 series model then they ever did with that older 3000 series model of mine. My multi-tap for starters works better with the 5000, than with the old 3000, for it now works regardless of what memory and controller ports it's plugged into. Also the fact that this newer unit came stock standard with that built in I.R. sensor thing, now I don't need to worry about wasting time plugging in wireless controller sensors into game controller ports and playing a game, now everything I need is built into the system. My DVD remote control works better with this 5000, for with the 3000 I needed once again to worry about plugging in a I.R. sensor into a game controller port to get it to work, with that built in sensor, no more plugging that thing in either. Also I did some research on this and come to find out that there was indeed a graphics upgrade with the 5000 series, for I'm noticing crisper, cleaner more defined graphics with this new unit, than with my old 3000 series. Also unlike my old 3000 that could only support stereo emulated surround sound, this 5000 was the first Sony Playstation unit to fully support true Dolby Pro Logic II surround sound. And lets not forget the progressive scan feature for DVD and game disk play, the 3000 didn't have it, my new 5000 does. Plus Sony.com in their Playstation 2 sections reports that the 5000 was purposely built to be 50% quieter than their older models. Also Sony.com reports in regards to my new unit that it was designed to be quicker on boot ups and game loads and game saves.

The only loss here to me, which is something I never planned to use anyway with my old 3000 series model was the "firewire" plug in port near where the USB 2.0 ports are in front of a Sony Playstation 2. So the older 3000 model supported "firewire" but the newer 5000 model does not, odd, but I guess that's ok, I'll live. :)

The important fact here, I'm back in the saddle again, better than I was and my Son and I are able to have good PS2 times again! :)

Well I just got back from my mornings running around session, while out I stopped off at one of my local Dimple Records, for their little banner sign outside said "10% to 50% off on all used games & accessories all systems"!

So I picked up 4 little items, the first thing grabbed was a Sony Playstation 2 "Eye Toy" USB camera & motion capturing device.

    Here it is right there........

Next were the games that were meant for that little camera thing, Eye Toy Play I, Eye Toy Play II & Eye Toy Revolution!

    Here's one of those three......

Don't really know if I will be the one playing on this new thing!?! This might be something more geared for my Son and his friends. The employee at Dimple said this device makes for a good time when hosting house parties! :)

But not a bad deal, everything purchased was under their umbrella of savings! The Eye Toy was $6.99 at 50% off dropped down to $2.45, and each Eye Toy game was $2.00 to start, each being 50% off dropped those down to 0.99 cents each! So not bad, for around $5.45 I got a major Playstation 2 accessory and three games meant for that accessory, not bad! :)

So how much more do I need to get for my PS2, to REALLY make the PC God's raging angry?
  11. Route44 TechSpot Ambassador Posts: 12,022   +18

Just mentioning PS2 brings their wrath... :dead:
  12. Zen TechSpot Paladin Posts: 938   +40

Hypothetically speaking, if I was to mention the words "Playstation 3" would they be as angry, as mentioning a "Playstation 2"? :blackeye:
  13. Route44 TechSpot Ambassador Posts: 12,022   +18

Your sarcastic reply is not lost on the PC Gaming gods. There was nothing "hypothetical" about it.
  14. Zen TechSpot Paladin Posts: 938   +40

Ok, I'll move away from the "hypothetical" and venture forth into "literal"!

The PC gaming God's are only angry with me, for they have lost a once serious hardcore PC gamer, who has now allied himself with the console gaming world.

Hay Gaming God's..............got something for you to check out......

God's, doesn't that just burn you up! :grinthumb

    lol

It is a dark path you tread my friend... Who has deluded you so???
  16. Zen TechSpot Paladin Posts: 938   +40

Well I guess my friend Craig has had some serious input in regards to my new founded Playstation 2 purchase. He has had one for 9 years now, takes a licking and keeps on ticking, his still works. Plus he knew I am saving up for a painfully expensive move here real soon, but I wanted a console all the same. He's the first person in my life that recommended a Playstation 2, as a "filler" in between not having a system and owning a Playstation 3.

Craig said....go cheap, buy everything for it "pre-owned", save a bundle of money, have enough money to not really worry about buying for the Playstation 2, if it's used, "it's cheap"!

Kind of nice, I got the console and many extras for it, like accessories, and little over 67 games, and I probably have only come close to, or maybe gone slightly over the price of a brand new Playstation 3 system , that only comes with one controller and maybe one game bundled into the deal. I've come out "way ahead" going the Playstation 2 route. Excluding about 3-4 various accessories for it, I've got em all! :)

So I'm getting my video game fix, for bottom basement prices! If I keep going pre-owned with everything for it, I will come out way ahead, even with a big move and all. :)

    Some New Goodies.....

Thought I would pop in here real quick as to update things. Unbeknown to me, for this past week my own Mother had been playing some minor bidding wars in regards to trying to get me some new gear for my Playstation 2 system. I had no clue what she was up to, but she handed me a box this afternoon, it's shipping labels indicated it had come from e-Bay!

So here's the new goodies she got me, not bad, just for around $10.00 I got the wheel and two games, kind of a bundle deal.

So there it is, my new pre-owned Logitech NASCAR force feedback steering controller, with floor pedals. The two games she got in the deal was "Dance Revolution 2" that uses my Official Sony Playstation 2 "Eye-Toy" and she got me NCAA Football 2003.

I tried out the new wheel with Gran Turismo A-Spec and it works like a charm, not one gosh darn problem, other than maybe the force feedback is wicked and powerful.

There we go, the update is now complete! :)

I really have enjoyed my ps2, it's one of the fatter ones, not the slim. I've had it for quite some time and surprisingly it still plays really well. I have a multitude of random games (a lot of fighters and whatnot). But my favorite thing to play has always been Dance Dance Revolution. I purchased the game with two dance mats. I've had a lot of fun with it with my friends.

Just wanted to pop in here real quick and update something! Today I went out to lunch with my Mom, while at the restaurant and trying to kill time by needless babble waiting for our food to arrive, my Mom practiced the old art of "loss lips sink ships'! She started asking some random questions as to what I knew about the Playstation 3 console. She also asked if some or most of my Playstation 2 games and gear would work with a Playstation 3 system, in my mind this was turning into something very obvious, either Mom or the Family are looking into a Playstation 3 system for me, maybe some sort of a house warming gift when soon I move into my new place. When she detected that I was kind of getting smart to the questions, she quickly changed the subject and it wasn't brought up again. Maybe a future Christmas gift sort of thing is being thought about here for me, I don't know, but this raised a "red flag" to me, that either if I buy it for myself, or it's a house warming gift, or Christmas gift, either way a Playstation 3 unit is not to far away on the horizon. :)

If they do get me one, the darn thing better be the backwards compatible kind, if not, it's a waste!
  20. LNCPapa TS Special Forces Posts: 3,946   +120

Uh oh - depends on the version. Highly unlikely that you'll be able to get one that has backward compatibility, those were available with the initially released PS3s and some of the second series. Here's a great chart to let you know what to expect - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playstation_3#Model_comparison
