All of my systems are modded. I recently started doing retro consoles, like Sega Genesis adding S-Video/ RCA jacks.. Etc. Just finished Turboexpress region switchless mod , and Sega Nomad LCD replacement mod. I am one happy retro gAming mod master.... Lol
Thanks for chiming in here Papa, by the looks of things and your report that the backwards compatible models were introduced upon the Playstation 3 initial release, doesn't bode very well for me. Trust me, if my family does this I'm thankful, even without backwards compatibility. But now I'm poised with possibly of having to have two Playstation units, the 2 and 3, side by side, sharing one television. I could have a friend of mine place a special chip inside the Playstation 3 as to allow backwards compatibility, but I declined his offer and advised that the Playstation 3 Network searches for modified units and in most cases, if an altered one is detected, it won't be allowed to play the on-line games. To be honest, if this does become a reality, at a friends house about 2 months back he was playing this killer looking game called "Just Cause"! It looked like a very huge and vast version of some sort of Grand Theft Auto thing. That game will be first on my list to buy! Getting excited....
I'm 99% sure you cannot add backward compatibility with any mod chips to the newer PS3s. Someone provide links if you know differently.
