Video not playing - Not the usual issues

i have a problem with playing video files (.avi) using any player (vlc, wmp)
I just bought a new computer which has the following video specs -
NVIDIA Geforce 7100 card which is a part of the motherboard
In addition to this i have a Compro E700 TV card installed.
The output is to a plasma tv via an hdmi cable.

The problem:
I am able to get digital tv thru the tuner just fine
When i play any sort of video file in normal players like vlc or media player
i can only see the top 1 inch of the video. The rest of it is blanked out.
The audio is working fine when the file plays.
When i play the video, if i try and make the screen 1/4th size, i manage to
get the video feed. If i make it full screen, then there's only audio and 7%
video at the top. Everything else is blanked.

What i have done so far:
I'm updated the drivers for the geforce 7100 to the latest available version (dec 07)
I've downloaded and installed the most recent divx codecs.

I'm stumped, i have no clue why this is happening. The only logical reason that i
see here is that its got to be something to do with the video card.
There definitly is no issue with divx codecs as i do manage to get video with the
screen at a smaller size.
Any suggestions?

Make sure you have programs like Flash and Java installed. It may even be good if you Install the latest Quicktime. Doing all this might give you the video codecs that you are missing
