Hi
A friend has given me her sons computer to try and sort out.

eMachine 5210, p4 2.5, 80GB, 512Mb Ram, Radeon 9100 integrated video.

It was just rebooting over and over and wouldn't even boot to safe mode.

I tried repairing with xp disc, repairing with recovery console all with no luck.

As they had recently backed up they said could I restore it with the discs that came with it.

Now it will only boot to safe mode and is asking for video and raid drivers.

I tried the ones on the disc, downloaded from ATI.

When I try to install the downloaded one it says it needs dotnet 2 so I downloaded that, and it wouldn't let me install that either.

I tried going through add/remove hardware and choosing the inf file from the recovery cd, and it says that my hardware is not compatible.

Does that mean that the video is faulty?

Any help would be appreciated.

Melissa

You could purchase the Recovery CD

But, I think you are best to click:
Start-->Run--> sfc /scannow
And allow Windows to confirm all system files are intact (you may need your Windows CD during the process)

Once complete, download and install Windows Xp SP3 from Windows Update
Note: Being a service pack install there are some recommendations
Do a full scan
Backup first
Turn off any personal firewalls or AntiVirus
Disable/Close any other programs open (ie messenger so forth)

Hi
Thanks for replying
I can only boot to safe mode at the moment.
I Tried sfc /scannow and the outline of a box very briefly appeared and then nothing happened.

There is nothing to restore to as I have reinstalled from the recovery discs which came with the computer. So it should be a clean install. It just won't recognise or install the video.
