Vista install not picking up hdd

  1. Vista is asking for the sata controller for a gateway dx4800-05e I can not find the sata controller. Vista is not showing the hard drive when I try to install vista. Can anyone help thanks:D

    It may be a bad hard drive... How old is the computer...
    Your data may still be recoverable if you use an external USB enclosure... so it becomes tricky to decide whether to mess with that drive, or temporarily install a new one.

    First thing, though, is to remove and reseat all your cables... carefully... then see if anything changes.

    Its a new hard drive and it has been formatted prior to installing it on the computer.

    For anyone who has the same issue go to the Nvidia website and download the

    15.25_nforce_winvista32_international_whql

    Now extract it and open the folder and go to IDE>WinVista>Sataraid

    Copy everything in that folder into a flash drive now load vista and when it tells you it could not find the hard drive or device click on browse and open the flash drive and click ok. Now select Sata Controller and just follow the wizard. I hope this helps someone.
