Vista startup - no explorer.exe

When I start up, my desktop is black and blank, except for a "my documents" window already open, have to run explorer.exe manually to get everything up and running.. I was hit by a virus earlier, not sure which though. But it did lock me out of my regedit and folder options, but managed to fix that. Is there a reg key for running explorer.exe?
Kasp free version isnt coming up with anything on the scans, either.
